2003 Hydroplanes - The Gold Cup Races

Four events were held during the 2003 ThunderFest on the Detroit River, August 22-24, 2003.  In the headline event, eleven Unlimiteds competed in the Unlimited Hydroplanes class, each vying for the Chrysler Jeep Superstores APBA Gold Cup.  Then, vintage and historic raceboats staged 'non-competitive' runs while Jersey Speed Skiffs competed for Jumpin' Points and Purses.  And finally, the Silver Cup Sweepstakes Free-for-All, reminiscent of racing in the 40's & 50's where you "run what you brung".
